A few years ago the Foundation widened its area of interest to cover other fields of science, without neglecting the philosophical, ethical and political problems and implications. The aims of the Foundation are contained in the amended Statutes that were approved in 1998: Art. 4 The aim of the Foundation is to contribute to the progress and diffusion of science and its applications. Such aim shall be achieved through conferences, lectures, seminars, meetings, publications, prizes, awards, funds, grants, scholarships or similar, favouring in particular relations and exchanges between scientists and organizations at international level. The scientific activity of the Foundation shall be carried out under the supervision of the Board of Directors and Scientific Committees appointed by the Board, in the following main fields: a) biological sciences (biology, biotechnology, genetics, medicine, surgery, pharmacology, toxicology, epidemiology, hygiene, occupational health and hygiene, and associated disciplines); b) physics and chemistry; c) energy, electronics, informatics; d) science and ethics; e) environment; f) diffusion and communication of science, science education; to which other fields may be added, by decision of the Board of Directors, provided they come within the aims of the Foundation. The foundation shall also support study and research initiatives and activities, also in liaison and cooperation with similar Italian, foreign or international institutions or organizations, or through participation in such institutions or organizations. |
