Aim and scientific activity of the Foundation
In recent years, the Foundation has expanded its area of interest to include other fields of science, without neglecting philosophical, ethical and political issues.
The Foundation's purposes are expressed in art. 4 of the Statute, approved in 1998 and lastly modified in 2016:
«Art.4 The Foundation's purpose is to contribute to the progress and the spread of science and its applications. This purpose is achieved through conferences, lecture series, seminars, conventions, publications, support activities for research institutes, as well as through the awarding of prizes, awards, contributions, subsidies, scholarships or specialization and the like, in particular promoting relationships and exchanges between scientists and institutions at an international level.
The scientific activity of the Foundation is carried out, under the direction of the Board of Directors and of specific Scientific Committees appointed by it, in the following main fields: a) biological sciences (biology, biotechnology, genetics, medicine, surgery, pharmacology, toxicology, epidemiology, hygiene, medicine and hygiene of work, and related disciplines); b) physics and chemistry; c) energy, electronics, computer science; d) science and ethics; e) environment; f) dissemination, communication and scientific education, to which other fields may be added, always within the scope of the purpose of the Foundation, by decision of the Board. The Foundation also has the purpose of supporting, in connection and collaboration with similar Italian, foreign and international institutions and bodies, or through participation in such institutions and bodies, initiatives and activities of study and research».
